Let me encourage you, there are many resources available for those interested in promotion of a book or to promote themselves into the Speakers market.
There are some initial needs you must consider.
Do You Have A Press Kit?
You only have one time to make a good impression. Don't let it pass by with a lack luster presentation, when you have spent so much time, developing your project.
Things You Need To Know About Becoming A Speaker
Speakers Bureaus are continuously accepting and reviewing materials from individuals who would like to become Professional Speakers. They want to provide the best to their clients, it would be impossible for them to promote everyone so it is necessary to level the playing field by supplying the best image you can for your presentation to them.
They will be reviewing the materials that you provide to determine if they will extend an invitation to develop a working relationship with you. Due to the number of inquiries they most likely receive they will probably NOT return your packet. Make sure you are not sending originals which would need to be returned.
Include the following items for their evaluation (In addition check their website for any information they required that is not listed below. Follow their directions exactly, sometimes you are being tested on your ability to follow instructions. No one wants to sign a person who will not do what they are being asked to do:
You will need
1. Biography - Entertainment Bio differs from a speakers bio.
2. CD - please include at least 3 songs and/or an Example of you speaking.
3. Reference Letters - please include at least 3 references from individuals who have seen you in Speak/concert. (Preferably these should be sources who have hosted you in the recent past)
4. Photo - this does not have to be an 8X10, but it must be a professional photo
5. Fee schedule - please describe your fee structure and travel requirements
If you have a website, please include the address but note that the website cannot be submitted in lieu of a press kit.
Please refrain from contacting their office for an answer about their reciept, acceptance or denial of your request for addition on their Speakers Roster. Give them the courtesy of responding in their time frame.
If they are interested in working with you and would like to add you to their roster, they will contact you and answer any further questions you may have at that time.
